Using Yahoo Mail Beta I click the spam button when I have highlighted a message that is spam. The message then goes to my spam folder, but my blocked addresses list remains empty and I continue to get email from the same spammer. I have spam block turned on. Should not email I mark as spam go to my blocked addresses list automatically?

When you report a message as spam, that tweaks the filter so that it gets "smarter" about what's spam and what isn't.
Adding addresses to the blocked list is something you do manually, on a case-by-case basis. It doesn't happen automatically just because you mark a message and report it as spam.
However, it's usually not worth the trouble to block the addresses of spam e-mails, because spammers fake the return addresses and change them all the time.
